MAPMIX / SETUP GUIDE
Start with two screens.
Build from there.
MapMix is in development. These instructions describe the current local prototype; public downloads are not available yet. The app also includes a tutorial under Help.
1. Plan the connections
Start with an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 14 or later, one or two destination displays or projectors, and cables or adapters supported by your Mac and displays. A third display is useful for the editor. Check the external-display limit of your exact Mac model before buying hardware.
HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C, or Thunderbolt display connections can be used when macOS recognizes the connected display. MapMix selects displays exposed by macOS; it does not implement every device behind those connectors independently.
2. Arrange the desktop
- In macOS System Settings → Displays, use an extended desktop instead of mirroring.
- Place the destination displays side by side in the same order as the physical screens.
- Start with matching resolutions and refresh rates when available. Our current desk test uses two 2560 × 1440 displays at 30 Hz. That is a test setup, not a performance guarantee.
3. Assign the canvas
- Open MapMix → Settings with ⌘, and choose Outputs.
- Select Single display or Span two displays. Pick each destination in left-to-right order.
- Review the desktop map and canvas boundaries. The editor can preview the whole canvas or an individual output region.
4. Calibrate, then play
- Use the calibration grid to confirm screen order and coverage.
- Add a four-corner surface. Move its corners to fit the physical surface, then load your own still image or video.
- Start project outputs. The selected displays show clean video; use Stop outputs or Escape while MapMix is active to return.
- Use the separate multi-screen motion test and its included sample video to check movement through the seam.
5. Save and rehearse
Save the native JSON project on your mounted external work drive and keep linked media at the same paths. Existing MapCraft native v1 projects remain compatible. Quit, reopen, and check your sources and routing before relying on the setup. Video playback is currently muted.
What is still ahead
DeckLink and UltraStudio output backends are planned, not implemented. Current routing supports up to two destination displays. Mesh warping, edge blending, audio playback, calibrated physical display sizing, and frame-locked outputs are not available. Matching refresh rates does not establish synchronization.
